The Andromeda Strain

Dr. Stone:
When we searched the rest of the houses, we found some people that had killed themselves, and some people that seemed to have died instantly. In one house, a family was sitting down for dinner, and it didn't seem that they noticed anything wrong. We believe these people were killed very quickly, before they had time to react to the virus. In other houses, we found people that had killed themselves. We believe the virus had driven them insane instead of kill them, and we aren't sure why. Then we discovered something very important.
We heard the screaming of a baby. At first, we thought we had imagined it, but we listened carefully, and we heard it again. We searched the town, and finally found the baby. It appeared to have nothing wrong with it, which was good because now we knew there was some form of immunity to the virus. We took the baby with us, because we imagine it could give us key results in finding the cure. As we were coming back from the helicopter, an old man came stumbling toward us. His name was Peter Jackson, and he was also a survivor of the virus.
